Jam of the Week: Sunflower Bean – Life’s a Gas

Sunflower Bean, press 01, 2015, (Crista_Simiriglia_3000x1688)Short, but sweet: that’s what ‘Life’s a Gas’ by Brooklyn band, Sunflower Bean, is.

This trio – guitarist Nick Kivlen, drummer Jacob Faber, and bassist and lead singer Julia Cumming – released their first studio album, Human Ceremony, on Fat Possum Records earlier this year. There’s a bit of the Carpenters, Tame Impala and Daughter to their alternative folk.

Next month the group will release a four-track EP of covers, titled From the Basement, which includes songs by Neil Diamond, Spiritualized and Jonathan Richman. ‘Life’s a Gas’ is a slow-brewed interpretation of the T Rex original, and a velvety summer evening wind down.

Life’s a Gas appears on From the Basement EP, released on September 4, 2016, on Fat Possum Records.
