5. Martina Topley Bird – Some Place Simple

4. Massive Attack – Heligoland

3. Tinie Tempah – Disc-Overy

2. Aloe Blacc – Good Things

1. Gorillaz – Plastic Beach

Posthumous honourable mentions 2010
Other 2010 albums that would have made the list if I’d bought or listened to them that year (updated September 4, 2013)

  • Andreya Triana – Lost Where I Belong (2010)
  • The Black Keys – Brothers (2010)
  • Bonobo – Black Sands (2010) [I bought this at Christmas 2010, along with Andreya Tirana’s album, and became completely enthralled by them in early 2011]
  • Broken Bells (2010) [Another amazing turn from Danger Mouse, showing that he can master alternative rock like a pro]
  • Eliza Doolitte – Eliza Doolittle (2010)
  • Janelle Monae – The ArchAndroid (2010) [Easily the greatest album I had heard since Demon Days. This would have topped my 2010 list]
  • Jazmine Sullivan – Love Me Back (2010)

Posthumous honourable mentions 2009
2009 albums that I was still listening to a lot in 2010 (and a best of 2009, of sorts)

  • Franz Ferdinand – Tonight: Franz Ferdinand (2009)
  • Hypnotic Brass Ensemble – Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (2009)
  • Little Boots – Hands (2009)
  • Little Dragon – Machine Dreams (2009) [Got this in late 2010, after seeing Gorillaz and Little Dragon live at the O2 in London]
